Spare Day

After a day on PTS yesterady I was rota'ed as spare at my usual station today. This means that I wasn't assigned to any vehicle so i either spent the day as Station Bitch or got assigned elsewhere, possibly even the other end of the County. Luckily for me one of the day bus bods rang in sick so i got assigned to that position. Had a good mixed day with a Chest Pain, a Hip Pain, an RTC a DiB and to top it off a chest pain that turned out to be a stonking infarct. We were called to a male with chest pain. Arrived to find him sweating and shivery, central chest pain not radiating. Found his radial pulse quite hard to find, gave him O2 and then out to the ambulance on the chair. Once on the vehicle he got a 12 lead, which was difficult due to the shivering. After a couple of failed attempts he was given Aspirin and GTN due to his history. The paramedic I was working with cannulated him and then we managed to get decent 12 lead which showed ST elevation in aVL (reciprocal changes in III), V2 and V3. The para was unable to thrombolyse autonomously so we went in. On arrival at ED straight in to resus. Consultanat took a look at our 12 lead and made the decision to thrombolyse. Bolus of heparin in and the the TNK. Job done. Heart muscle saved. One for the portfolio.
