Happenings

It has been nearly a month since my last post. What has been happening in the wonderful world of Poole St John Ambulance?

I've attended the Regional Comps as part of the Dorset Adult Care Team. We came second.

I dared to miss one Speedway meeting at which the ambulance broke down (dodgy alternator) - how long before I was told? Six days, thats all. Luckily for us there was no meeting the following night. Apparently the alternator had packed up and the wagon wouldn't start. Add this to the lack of a reversing horn. So I've had to take it in for repair. Who oh why couldn't one of the crew just given me a bell and said "By the way, the Transits knacked!" ?

Leadership Course

Having been asked to run the division for year whilst M takes a years
sabbatical it was decided that it would be a good idea if I attended
the Leadership course that County were running at the Lifeboat
College.
What a place that Lifeboat College is! Considering it is "just a
Charity Training Centre" the facilities were better than some of the 4
star hotels I have stayed at in London.
The course was excellent - we ran through most of the things that
worry me as a new Unit Leader. Seeing the paperwork before I have to
fill it in anger has been useful. More useful though was the
networking opportunities given over the weekend. The Commander,
Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner were there so I thought it would
be rude not to get myself on their radar. Also there were four other
Unit Leaders from Dorset there that I could get to know better. But
best of all I had a lot of fun.
